I had the chance during the 2015 climbing season to hike Fuji-san! We hiked from the popular starting point at the 5th station to the summit. In 2016, I had the opportunity to hike from the bottom of Mt. Fuji to the 5th station, thus conquering the entire volcano, but that’s another post for another day.
Mount Fuji was the second hike I’ve ever done (with Mount Batur in Bali, Indonesia being the first), and thus began my love of hiking. Well….it was more like love/hate while actually hiking Fuji. For those of you that have hiked it, you probably know what I mean. The challenge was well accepted, and the feeling of accomplishment has never been greater. This will always be one of my favorite experiences from Japan, and I love the hiking stick idea as a souvenir piece. We collected a stamp at each station along the hike, and picked up new flags since the originals were pretty destroyed by the time the hike was finished.
We made it back to the 5th station just in time for sunset (& ice cream!).
