Atami, Japan

Atami is a cozy seaside village that is located just a couple hours west of Tokyo proper, and is a popular weekend destination spot for ‘Tokyoites’. This quaint fishing village closely resembles Naples in Italy with its volcanic hills lining its coastline. Atami is actually built on the remains of the volcano’s crater, and is close to the famous Mt. Fuji volcano.

We spent the day sailing on the Sagami-nada sea in Atami (located on the coast of the Izu Peninsula), and then spent the early evening hours enjoying an impressive fireworks show from the boat dock. It was a lovely day to spend away from the hustle and bustle of city life, and enjoy our time on a wonderful sailboat with great friends.
